Good News for Military Families and Civilians Who Live and Work at Camp Lejeune
There is great news for the military, civilians, and families who have worked or lived at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina. The United States Senate has recently voted to pass the Camp Lejeune Justice Act. It is expected to be signed by President Biden within the next few weeks.
What is the Lejeune Justice Act?
Under this Act, military, civilians, and their families can seek reparations from the United States government for those impacted from living and working at Camp Lejeune and were exposed to toxic water on base.
For the last four decades, between 1953 and 1987, Marines and military families, both working and living at North Carolina's U.S. Marine Core Base Camp Lejeune have been exposed to contaminated drinking water. Marines, civilians, and their families who lived and worked on Camp Lejeune were unaware of their exposure to toxic chemicals through Camp Lejeune water contamination.
Two of the eight wells were contaminated with harmful chemicals known to cause cancer and other severe illnesses, putting hundreds of thousands of people at risk for cancer and other serious illnesses. Reproductive problems, birth defects, and Parkinson's disease have also been linked to Camp Lejeune water contamination.
