Matthew Modine’s Inspiring Visit to Camp Lejeune: Honoring Marines, Traditions and Legacy
In early November 2024, acclaimed actor Matthew Modine visited MCB Camp Lejeune.
As part of his visit, Mr. Modine attended his first Marine Corps Birthday Ball as the guest of honor with VMM-261 The Raging Bulls. The squadron extended a warm welcome, celebrating his presence as part of the evening's festivities. In a gesture of camaraderie, they presented him with a personalized flight jacket complete with a custom name tag. In return, Mr. Modine graciously provided a signed photograph to be displayed in their squadron—a meaningful exchange that made the night truly memorable.
Mr. Modine also toured the School of Infantry, where he met with young Marines undergoing rigorous training to prepare for the challenges of modern and future operational environments.
Despite a tight schedule, he took time to connect with both trainees and commanding officers across Camp Lejeune and New River Marine Corps Bases, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
One of the highlights of his visit was a preview of the Carolina Museum of the Marine. Scheduled to open in 2026, the museum is dedicated to preserving the legacy of Carolina Marines and Sailors while inspiring future generations. Mr. Modine expressed great admiration for the project and its mission.
The visit culminated in a special screening of Full Metal Jacket at a theater on base. The iconic film, in which Mr. Modine stars, resonated deeply with the young Marines, who were thrilled to watch the movie alongside him. The event was a fitting tribute to both his career and the enduring connection between the film and the Marine Corps.
Mr. Modine’s visit was a meaningful and inspiring experience, celebrating the bond between his work and the Marines while honoring the traditions and future aspirations of the Corps.
